Cut-A-Thon for the Cure a Success

0 Comments so far

In an effort to generate research funds for breast cancer, the stylists at Axle Color Studio hosted a cut-a-thon on June 23rd to raise money for the the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure Fund. In a few short hours, the salon was able to raise almost $1,700, making the event an inspiring success.

The salon offered haircuts, blowouts and mini makeup makeovers with 100% of the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure. Alantra Spa, Embody MedSpa and ABSolute Fitness (all located in North Reading) donated products and gift certificates to the raffle. FitHouse, a new cycling and training studio located in Woburn, provided upbeat music at the event and donated spin and strength classes to the raffle. D’Amicis Bakery (Lynn, Wakefield and Melrose) and The Pizza Guys (North Reading) kept patrons well fed with delicious pastries and pizza throughout the day.

“I can’t tell you how special the event was to me and it is all thanks to the professionals at Axle Color Studio”, said client Sue Salvatierra. “Their dedication and hard work helped raise a lot of money to wipe out breast cancer in our lifetimes while providing the premier service for which they are known.” Salvatierra, who lives in North Reading, has been walking the Boston Susan G. Komen 3-Day since 2007 and will be walking again from July 26-28.

Axle Color Studio hosts breast cancer fundraiser

In an effort to generate research funds for breast cancer, the stylists at Axle Color Studio, the 203 Main Street, North Reading hair salon owned by Lynnfield natives Jackie and Alex Williams, will be hosting a cut-a-thon on June 23 from 10 AM – 3 PM to support the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Fund (http://ww5.komen.org).

For just $35 ($50 with blowdry), guests will receive a chic haircut from Axle Color Studio stylists with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Fund.  In addition to affordable haircuts for a great cause, there will be music, raffles, mini makeup makeovers and food to make this a fun event for the whole family.  Appointments can be made by calling (978) 664-2800.  Walk-ins are welcome, though appointments are recommended.

“We were inspired by our client, Sue Salvatierra, to host this cut-a-thon,” said Jackie Williams.  “Sue’s maternal grandmother died from breast cancer when her mother, also an Axle client, was just 15 years old.  Sue said to me, ‘to think that my mother went on to graduate from high school and college, got married and had children without the benefit a mom’s support is heartbreaking.  No one should have to do that’.”

Salvatierra, who lives in North Reading, has been walking the Boston Susan G. Komen 3-Day since 2007 and will be walking again in July.  “I continue to walk so that my daughter never has to fear breast cancer and so she won’t have to walk,” says Sue, a certified lymphedema therapist who helps people recover from the effects of cancer and treatment.  “I have several friends who are battling stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, waiting for that next clinical trail or new drug to give them hope.  I am also walking the 3-Day in Washington D.C. in October in memory of one of these brave people, Bridget Spence, who passed away this past March at the age of 29 after an 8 year battle with breast cancer.  She was diagnosed right after graduating from college.  6 months prior to graduating, she went to the doctor with a lump in her breast and was sent away because ‘she was too young to have breast cancer and she had no family history’.  She was from Washington D.C., so my team, The Pink Angels, is going down to support her family and friends who will also be walking.”

Alice’s work experience in the beauty industry has spanned from working backstage at NYC Fashion Week for designers (such as Tory Burch and Peter Som, just to name a few) to photo-shoot/video-shoot work for authors and CEO’s of Global Companies at Harvard Business Review, and everything in between.  Her five year experience with leading makeup authority MAC Cosmetics has given her to the opportunity to work closely with the company’s Artist Training and Development team teaching Master Classes for MAC and training other employees to be the best makeup artists they could be.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Alice graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design where she studied Illustration.  One could say artistry runs in her family, as her uncle is a famous woodblock artist in Japan.  Alice has always loved the marriage of art and beauty.  As a little girl, Alice would watch her mother apply her makeup in the morning, getting lost in what her mother was doing.  Her passion for all things art and beauty developed further as she became a Makeup Artist for MAC Cosmetics.

Just a reminder that the Style Swap at Axle Color Studio is this Sunday (details below). We still have some tickets left, but they are limited. This is going to be a great event and we hope that you’ll be able to join us!

In addition to benefiting Project Hope, Tricia Cromwell of Trust in Tricia will also be donating a portion of the Style Swap ticket sales to One Fund Boston, a fund set up by Governor Deval Patrick and Mayor Tom Menino to help those most impacted by Monday’s tragedies.

The Location

203 Main Street
North Reading, MA 01864
